Streamlining CRM Access for Sales Teams on the Go

Project Overview

Our team was tasked with designing a mobile app for a robust CRM tool used by internal sales teams. The primary challenge was identifying and addressing scenarios where salespeople needed to access CRM features without a laptop or desktop. This necessitated thoughtful prioritization, as creating a full 1:1 mobile adaptation was impractical.

We began with the sales pipeline module, which solved a critical pain point: how salespeople could effectively track potential and active deals while traveling. By introducing a Kanban-style interface, similar to JIRA, the mobile app provided a clear visual representation of deals in progress, categorized by their stages in the sales process.

Additionally, we identified a significant opportunity to enhance productivity outside office hours. Some employees, particularly those in our Asia offices, were restricted to desktop access due to security policies, limiting their ability to prospect for new customers. The customer/prospect management module addressed this by enabling users to add and organize contacts, track interactions, and manage customer information directly on their mobile devices. This feature also allowed salespeople to take orders and close deals seamlessly, increasing flexibility and efficiency.

Given the lack of clearly defined interactions for some of these features, it became evident that an interactive prototype was essential. The prototype not only guided development but also facilitated usability testing to refine the experience before implementation. This approach allowed us to iterate effectively and ensure the app met user needs while aligning with organizational goals.

Prototyping Key Features for the CRM Mobile App

The Sales Pipeline Prototype featured a Kanban-style interface to help users track deals and manage their progress effectively.

The Customer Management Prototype focused on organizing contacts and logging interactions, enabling users to add prospects, update details, and manage sales activities directly on their mobile devices.

Design System Built with Sketch and ProtoPie

I worked closely with a team of designers to develop and refine a comprehensive design system using Sketch and ProtoPie. My role focused on collaborating to create and update styles, components, and design patterns, ensuring consistency across the CRM mobile app.

Taking the lead on interactive prototypes, I leveraged ProtoPie to build dynamic interactions, including transitions, conditional logic, and real-time behaviors. These prototypes played a crucial role in usability testing and aligning the design system with user needs and development goals.
